The Push to Out Lateral Violence – 16 February 2012
Produced by Michelle Lovegrove
Lateral violence is a term that most of us probably didn’t know too much about until recently.
But there’s a push now, from a number of elders around the country – for all of us to acknowledge and do something about it in our families and communities.
Lateral violence starts in the home – grows in the home – and takes over our lives from that point.
That’s the view of South Australian elder Brian Butler, who’s lent his considerable support to a new national campaign at combatting lateral violence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Uncle Brian was the founding chair of the Stolen Generations Alliance, an inaugural member of the Aboriginal and Islander Healing Foundation, set up the Secretariat for National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC), and very much more.
